Assistancewe requested for speed editor and DR17b23 in Linux

My details:
DR 17.08 b23
OS: PopOS (similar to ubuntu)
GFX: Nvidia 1070
I appreciate that DR isn't officially supported in other linux distros, but it seems that others are able to make it work.
I have installed DR from the terminal via the instructions provided in the .zip file. The speed editor is plugged into a usb port, but is also recognised and connected to the computer via Bluetooth.
had an earlier version of DR 17 installed prior to this fresh install. Not sure if that makes any difference.
I run DR via sudo as well (sudo ./resolve).
When running DR, it does mention "Looking for control surface". The first time I ran DR, this step took quite some time to pass. Perhaps it found something, but couldn't reconcile it?
Within DR, everything seems to be working fine except for the speed editor, which is completely inoperable. No lights, no reaction to various key presses. I have looked through preferences for an indication it is connected, but there is no confirmation.
I'm not sure where to start to fix this up and would appreciate any help you can provide.
