DVR 17 beta 7 crashes constantly, usually for no reason

i have been working with beta 7 for about an hour now and it has crashed five times, always for no reason - ie i was not moving the mouse or touching the keyboard when it went down. i will keep going for a few more minutes, but i have something important to finish this evening and if it goes on this way, i shall have to switch back to beta 6, which was pretty stable (much more so than DRV 16, which is why i switched to 17 beta).
also, when in the Edit page, the view monitor keeps going black. if i move the playhead, the image comes back, but it makes it very hard to work when it keeps disappearing.

hi jim,
re "I updated to nVidia's 461.09 Gaming driver today and WOW, what a mess is Resolve!"
in
viewtopic.php?f=36&t=131254nvidia drivers would normally be an excellent place to start, but i have not touched mine since i rebuilt my system about two months ago. beta 6 was working quite well, and indeed so were most of the previous betas. i am crossing fingers that i can get this done - and saving every twenty seconds!

Is your GPU driver the studio version. You will have issues with the gamer version

hi anthony,
yes that is a good point. i hope i used the studio version as i never need the GRD (game ready driver) version. i have started trying to find out which type i have, but so far the version numbers that nVidia gives on their website (eg 460.89 is the latest studio driver for the GTX 1080) are completely different from the one that MS is reporting (ie 27.21.14.5730). given the warning about updating the driver i am not keen to do that at the moment otherwise, i would simply update.
however, oddly enough, ever since posting my crash report, would you believe it, Resolve hasn't crashed at all, including during a full output render (a favourite time for DRV to go down). go figure.
anyway, i shall continue trying to find out which sort of driver i have and maybe upgrade after doing a restore point.

If you load GeForce Experience it will tell you what you have loaded and you then have the option to load the latest Studio or Game driver. Yes load the Studio version.

thanks for this suggestion. in the past i have been wary of GFE, but i have just installed it and can report that i have the following nVidia driver: Studio Driver 457.30
GFE wants me to install the latest GRD and refuses to offer me a new studio driver, so i have had to go back to the web to find the latest studio driver. i appear to be only one version behind - newest is 460.89 from Dec 15.
i have just read Jim Simon's post more carefully - GRD is indeed the problem, not the fact that it was an updated driver. i will probably upgrade to the latest SD when my computer is less heavily loaded with open apps.
thx, jd

In GeForce experience you need to set your preferences for Game or Studio. Little dots top right of box. When you set this to Studio drivers you will only be presented with studio drivers. Current is 460.89 I would also choose custom install and select clean install.

That's incorrect. I had
no issues using Gaming drivers previous to 461.09. It was that update that caused all the mayhem.
Others report using the Gaming version of 460.89 without issue, so it's not really a Gaming/Studio issue, it a driver version issue.
