Mac App Store Buyers to DR17 Land

PostWed Jan 20, 2021 7:10 pm

I am a Mac DV Studio 16 user who purchased it via the Apple App Store, so I have no DR Studio password. I would like to upgrade to DV Studio 17 Beta. I am learning DR and increasingly finding the rest of the world using DR 17 features especially when viewing DR 17 based tutorials. Could someone at Black Magic direct me to updating instructions for Mac Users without a password? I don’t want the DR 17 free version, I paid for the Studio version. Within the installer, I am not sure if the “download only” version is only a free version? Waiting for an DV 17 update via the App Store may not come before 2022. I don’t want to screw up my DR database or DR failing in the future.

This is one of the many reason we say do not buy Resolve via the Apple App Store. You might have to just wait. But maybe try Studio b7? Remember to back up projects and DB first and keep in a separate place.

The problem is we get message too late about the App Store issues. Issue me a serial number and I will stay away from the App Store. I guess I could just rebuy DR without using the App Store. Maybe Black Magic could throw in a Promo code for second time buyers.

That is your best path forward, I think.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

According to Black Magic Design Management, you are going to have to pay full price for Resolve again. What an unprofessional way to run a company.

Why should BMD give away licenses when it's Apple that does not allow beta software in their App Store?

You can always buy a BM camera or, if you are patient enough - the Resolve + Speed Editor combo :D
