Please insert CDROM/Uninstall previous version

Hey guys! Not sure if anyone is familiar with this error but every so often, it'll happen to me.

So! Basically every so often, I'll attempt to install an update for my resolve and it'll either say

"The feature you are trying to use in on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.

Insert the 'Davinci Resolve' disk and click OK."

Or I'll get

"There is an older version of Davinci Resolve on your computer, please uninstall first."

This time I received both. In the past I've gone "delete-happy" to fix this problem(suggested literally anywhere I looked) and in turn...ended up losing my entire database with every project I've ever worked on. Needless to say, I have learned my lesson and saved backups for both my database & existing project files. But I can't help but get nervous that I'll lose something important the second I start to deleting registries and whatnot.

Anyone have any advice or have solved this issue?

Thank you in advance :)

Resolve leave files behind so you need to do a full uninstall with an app like Revo.

I've used apps like that and somehow...fragments of the program are left behind. It gets so frustrating

You should definitely NOT normally use an app like Revo.

If you have a normal working Resolve system and you use the Windows Programs and Features panel to uninstall Resolve, that should work fine.

Note that a normal Resolve uninstall does leave lots of stuff behind. Basically all your user related data and configs and LUTs. If you use some third party uninstall app to try to remove Resolve, bad things are likely to happen, unless your goal is to truly totally uninstall Resolve, as in you don't want to use it anymore. In that case, use whatever uninstall method you like.

Sometimes, when the proper Programs and Features uninstall fails, which might happen if someone or something did a disk cleanup and deleted files they didn't think were important, but were important for a normal uninstall, you have to resort to stronger measures. In that case, we recommend using the Windows Install/Uninstall Fixit app, which generally will fix those sorts of issues and allow a proper reinstall of Resolve.

But in your case Michael, we need more details on what type of system you are using. What OS. What Resolve version? It would help if you generate a Resolve diagnostic log and provided that, the next time one of those messages popped up. You can do that in the Resolve Help menu: Create Diagnostics Log on Desktop.

I'm using Windows 10 and currently using the last 17 beta version(before the new one dropped early this evening) I used to completely uninstall before updating Resolve and I would get that message. This time updated within the program, without uninstalling the previous version. Getting the same error.

Just recently, I reinstalled my OS to start fresh. Deleted literally everything. I figured that would be the end. Apparently not.
