Upon updating the DR Studio 17 Beta 6 to Beta 7, then starting the DR Studio, it asked me to enter Activation key, which never happened before. After reentering the key, I got a message, "No more Activations Left."

Did you buy the activation key from an authorised reseller or 2nd hand? If somebody else has access to your activation key, they might still be using it, and it keeps locking you out.

I got the key from Blackmagicdesign.com on Sept 25, 2017. It was when version 14 came out and BMD was giving license keys to dongle holders.

No one else has access to my activation key. I never ever share my activation keys or licensed software with anyone.

Updates up to Beta 6 did not have this issue. When I updated to Beta 7 and started DR 17 b7, it prompted me for an activation key or dongle. I typed again the activation key and got the message, no more activation available.

I am sure it is either your activation server or Beta 7 issue.

Hi!

I have a similar problem with beta 7. In December I switched from 16 to 17b6 studio on Linux. Yesterday I switched to 17b7 and upon start I am asked for the key. That happend with 17b6 as well. But now I get a red line of text:

There was an error when attempting to perform the activation. Please contact Black Magic Design support for assistance.

Today I still get the message. Unfortunately it is rather unspecific. Is the server down? Or is it a problem on my side?

Best regards
Uli

I believe it is the BMD server screwing up or a bug in the Beta which does not carry over the license key from the previous install. It prompts to enter the key again and the server throws the error because key is already registered.

I had no problem upgrading from 16 to 17, through all of the betas. Activation remained in place.

My machine has a dual boot setup. As explained above, under Linux 17b7 asks for the activation key again. So I booted Win10, removed studio 16 and installed studio 17b7. It does not ask for the key. However if I click on „deactivate license“ in the menu I basically get the same error message:

"There was an error when attempting to perform the deactivation. Please contact Black Magic Design support for assistance."

Can You help with activation? Your system have very strange license management. This happened with me today — viewtopic.php?f=36&t=133457

It looks like license doesn't check workstation ID or user ID (like any other system). If you reinstall Windows and enter key again -1 license. If you reinstall Windows again — minus another and that is all. Activation is no longer possible.

I'd be happy if they would fix the issue with deauthorization on Debian Bullseye.

Had the same problem yesterday when I wanted to do a test on a machine I don't use normally.
Something is definitely wrong with their server's resetting of older activations.

They know about and the fix is to install CentOS. With CentOS going EOL December 2021 it should make for interesting times.

I just installed Beta 8 and the program will not start... stuck on page checking licenses. Seemed to work fine in previous Betas.

Correct, 7.x will get maintenance updates until 2024. Three years.

Ride it to the bitter end.

Do we know what CentOS does differently? Its not terribly convenient for me to dual boot for Resolve, Id prefer to avoid it if possible.
