Res 17 B7 - Cannot Use Colour Warper

I usually have a node for a "Base" Grade and then move forward with other nodes.
Had embarrassed/magenta/red faced talent so decided to use a second node with the colour warper to adjust his face.
I picked the colour... just 1 point, and as soon as I moved it, the blacks that were taken below pedestal with the first base grade, popped up back into the waveform and were extremely grainy and grey, and therefore unusable.
I reversed the order of nodes (colour warper first & base grade second) - still no good
I went to the standard colour picker as a work around.
Is this a bug?
