Conforming when working on a single edit station

Hi folks,
how would I conform if no additional editing machines are involved or no moving of footage occurs?
Example:
- Shoot;
- Offload source files onto my machine;
- Import these files into Resolve bins;
- Transcode to smaller files using Resolve, into a subfolder near original footage;
- Edit using these smaller files;
GOAL:
When ready to finish and export, I'd like to swap these smaller files with the hi res originals.
QUESTION:
How would I go about doing this? Should I (incorrectly) relink my media bins, which now refer to a subfolder with low-res files, to a folder with original footage or...? This will leave an incorrect link within myproject (low-res bin will point to high-res file folder on my system)
(I do not want to use optimized media, nor can I use proper proxy workflow since it is not available in 17).
Thanks!

Use the optimised media set up within Resolve and let Resolve look after everything for you

Brother, I appreciate the effort but I explicitely stated that I DO NOT want to use any sort of automation in that regard.
"Optimized media" cramms all the "proxies" onto my scratch drive, in an unreliable location, which needs to be emptied from time to time. I want to retain all of my proxy files and be able to use them for editing on the go (like, when I travel with my under-capacitated and tired laptop) and I never want to waste time re-generating them in the future, should I need to do some re-adjustments if the clients ask.
In other NLEs, there is a "regular" proxy workflow, which is fantastic for this but it is unavailable except in ver 17, which I cannot use because I keep having weird issues with it so O downgraded to 16.

Hey Alex,
the worksflow is actually really simple if you've done it couple of times:
1. Proxies must have the same naming as the OCD. No *_proxy what so ever added
2. My OCD and proxy have the same folder/subflder structure
3. edit with the proxies
When ready to relink there are several way. I use "reconform from bins"
4. mark all proxies in your edit timeline - rightclick - "conform lock enable" --> off
5. Import OCD with folderstructure i to the media pool
6. find you edit timeline in media pool --> rightklick --> reconform from bins
7. now check only the folder with the OCD and their subfolders and unchek everthing else as resolve will look for files to replace in the folders you checked
8. for conform options (right side of the dialog) I use 1. Timecode/source timecode and 2. file name - loose file name match
aftr that all the files you unchecked with "conform lock enable" --> off will be replaced with files that have the same TC and filename.
Cheers
Krischan

Skip that (and the later conforming headaches) and use either Optimized Media or (when you switch to 17), Proxies.

Well that's contradictory to your opening thesis:
"...no additional editing machines are involved or no moving of footage occurs?"

It was simpler to explain it that way. What I wanted to say with that was that the source footage will come to this machine, smaller res files will need to be created here, used for editing and conformed back to source footage.
The thing is, with another NLE it was such a simple matter of taking a project file and proxies, working on the go and later reconnecting this to the source footage. I am struggling here a bit.

In v17 fhere is a proxy workflow like in other NLEs as well:
In your media pool select your clips -> right click -> generete proxy media.
Where it goes and what codec it will use you set up in the Project settings -> master settings.
