moving projects from Davinci Resolve 17 to 16

PostSun Jan 24, 2021 4:25 pm

Ive been having so many problems in v17 that I want to reinstall v16.
The problem is, I tried it and was unable to open an project archive saved in v17, in v16, and so I went back to v17.
Is there a way to save an archive or export a project from v17 so that it can be read in v16?

Thanks

The only way I can think of is that any projects/timelines that you have made changes to will need to be exported out first before going back to version 16. If you backed up your database before installing 17 you should be able to use the backup and then import the exported timelines back into 16.

If you are not bothered about the work you have done using 17, just install 16 and import the 16 database and carry on as if you never tried out 17.

Before you do anything it is best to backup the Davinci Resolve 17 database in case you need to return back to 17 again if things do not workout.

I haven't tried this myself so I would wait for confirmation from other user first in case 17 exports don't load into 16.
Thank you

a v17 drp will not import into v16
some options are;
- make an XML of the timeline + luts & stills of key shots (or all shots if needed), import XML and refrences into v16 and rebuild / eyematch / apply luts
- find out what root cause of the issues you have with v17 and sort them, assumeing it's machine / install specfic as many folks (includeing me) have no significant issues with v17

Hi Dermot

Thanks for your thoughts

I am currently trying to establish whether the issues I have are in fact coming from my machine/install or whether they are a bug in v17, by asking if any one on this forum has been able to make a 50,60 or 59.94fps timeline that runs at the correct speed.
So far I've had no replies either way.

As I shoot at 50fps my timelines are always set to that and run with no problem. This is with HD h.264 in an MP4 container. With Proxy playback set to Half Resolution, and Show All Video Frames set to On, I can run a 50fps UHD Timeline with no problems.
