free version vs studio version video formats indication

hello.

I use the studio version of resolve so i normally don't have to deal with this. but i advised a friend to try the free version for some editing. Immediately he stumbled on some limitations, he was not able to decode HD XAVC Intra footage. instead it showed up as media offline. I tested it in the studio version and i was able to work with this footage. So after telling him that, he decided to take the gamble and buy the studio version anyway and found that the same footage now did work.
So the conclusion was that it's a limitation of the free version.

https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/ ... c_List.pdf

this is the only list i could find with all the supported codecs, and as "studio only" is found a few times in there, it does seem to indicate that these MXF-OP1a XAVC Intra clips can be decoded in the free version. Is this list up to date? We did the tests with 16.2 on windows 10

And is the "media offline" image intended behaviour when stumbling on limitations of the free version? if so, maybe a smarter solution would be to show an image with actual information about this limitation.

If memory serves, version 17 will now show the footage with the Studio watermark, rather than the Media Offline logo.

Before I got the Studio version I just transcoded all my XAVC into ProRes . I can't remember if you can do that in the free version. i used to do it in Catalyst Browse but that's limited to Prores HD
