Restored from backup two weeks ago when things we're going normally. But that didn't help either. Crashes several minutes after launch even if no changes are made anywhere.
Very strange behavior also with mini panel. When in the HDR tab the mini panel goes crazy and all the lights flash of and on until you click back to the log wheels tab. Also getting some very strange artifacts in the play back window – black six sided polygons that flash in the image. Rendered file looks fine. I have memory allocation set to maximum.

All this information should be in the file linked below-.tgz, .spx and .drp

Dead in the water until help arrives.

Not sure what you've done, but all the log files in the LogArchive folder are from 2019.

The rollinglog is current, and shows you are using 17b6. But the rolling log is less than helpful to see what the issues are.

Did you generate the log file from the Resolve Help menu?

Your mention of restoring things from a backup makes me wonder if something bad happened there.

Thanks for the speedy response.

No, I went to restore from backup about 10 days back to the previous beta to see if that or anything else would help. I did a full restore from backup to make sure there were not any system files/preferences etc that were causing the problem.

All reported issues remain the same. The flashing lights on the mini panel started some time after the first upgrade / Install to 17 beta. At first 17 ran without any issues at all. No crashing at that point.

All issues existed before yesterday’s reinstall from backup (which I did with phone support from Apple so I’m confident that that process is not contributing to the issues) and issues continue to exist in same form now from backup. I might not have gone back far enough? But wanted to see what you had to say about various reports.

DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20210125-201112- (sent to you by WeTransfer) this file indicates it was generated 1/25/2021 doesn't it? this the file that shows only 2019 crashes? I never get a prompt that Resolved has crashed and do I want to send a crash report. is it possible it is not making a report? There should be dozens of crashes in there from the last few days)

This log was much better.

From the Resolve Help menu, select the DaVinci Control Panels Setup app, and see if your panel has the current software installed.

All the crashing seems to be related to a ColorMapper process. Please install the current 17b7 version to see if it makes that go away.

Please provide a project export .drp of the CoxeProjectFilev2-2_24_21 project.

Upgraded to the current version of 17 beta. I'm quite sure that this was the version that was running when I decided to go back to the previous version to see if that would solve the problem.

Thinking that you still needed the DRP file from the upgraded version, I attempted to export it. It appeared to export according to the progress bar, however resolve crashed immediately after that and no .DRP file appears to have been written.

Is Resolve only crashing with that project loaded?

If you start a new project, does Resolve crash?

The Invalid character messages are troubling. The 63 means there is a ? in a file path or name. The 62 means there is a > in a file path or name. Both are illegal characters for paths/names.

I looked through your project for anything like that, and don't see any. Are there files in the folder(s) you are using in the project that might have such characters in them, that you haven't added to the Media Pool?

I did find an empty space in the SSD drive name which I've corrected.
The path is now "EXT1 SSD WORKING VIDEO RAID-2T/Coxe-v2_2021/clip name
There are only two clips they are:
BlMPCC-2_1_2014-07-07_2011_C0000_2.00x_3840x2160_ahq-9.mov and
BlMPCC-2_1_2014-07-07_1923_C0000_2.00x_3840x2160_ahq-9.mov

Working on a project stored on a different drive is fine so far. No immediate crashing and no issues with the mini panel and the HDR tab.

Going back to the problematic project, resolve crashed while making an adjustment in the HDR tab. Reopening in the "thought it was working" project now encountering the same flashing panel/HDR tab behavior. I was thinking the SSD might be failing, but this project is on a different drive.

If you are using the project you sent me, what timeline and what clip are you on when it crashes?

It now seems to be crashing in different projects and different places on the timeline. It's even crashing after just being opened and having chosen a timeline to open. And now the flashing mini panel is back.

Previously, at its worst, it would crash on opening. It's a little bit better than that now, but obviously not enough to be able to do any work.

Not sure what else I could add to be helpful.

Being that the crash is related to something using a ColorMapper function, it's likely to be related to something using color processing. The project you sent me has lots of CST nodes is use.

Are the projects that are crashing using CST nodes as well?

Here's a simple thing to try, that might have an effect. In Resolve Preferences - System - Memory and GPU, set the GPU processing mode to OpenCL, save the prefs and restart Resolve. Does that help?

Opened a project with no CSTs and went to the preferences and changed it from metal to open CL. In saving the preferences Resolve crashed Before completing save.

Reopened resolve and see that in fact open CL was saved. “GPU auto select” is unchecked. However now the thumbnails for the clips in the color page are very slow to load. Once loaded Project plays OK for a few minutes and I’m not experiencing any of the issues such as the control panel flashing lights or the strange polygon flashing But after allowing the timeline to be played through for a minute or two Resolve crashed on its own without any additional input.

It’s midnight here on the East Coast United States so I’m going to pack it in. If you can give me any further advice I’ll get to it first thing in the morning.

We've found the area related to the crash in the project you sent.

It's in clip 17, Node 5 of timeline Coxe-2021. At frame 01:11:10:12, you have a keyframe on corrector 5. Remove that keyframe, and the crashing will stop.

Seems likely that it's related to a Color Warper change at the keyframe. Perhaps related to the Color Warper points changing from 24x12 ahead of the keyframe, to 6x6 at the keyframe. But I'm not sure that's exactly the issue.

The dev team is chasing it down. I imagine they'll have a fix for whatever the issue is in a future build.

But for now, your simplest fix is to remove that Corrector 5 keyframe.

If you have other projects crashing in a similar fashion, it should be pretty strait forward to determine the clip it's crashing in. And if there is a keyframe on a node with a Color Warper correction, that's probably the suspect.

I didn't say that.

There is something very specific in that node 5 grade in conjunction with the keyframe that's causing the crash.

I've spent some amount of time trying to manually recreate the basics of what's happening in node 5 of clip 17, in node 5 of clip 20. I've added the keyframe. Made changes in all the same things that are going on in scene 17, and can't get it to crash.

But if I copy the node 5 grade from clip 17 to node 5 of clip 20, the crash happens when scrubbing over the keyframe.

So it's possibly some weird corner case of effects on that node, that won't likely resurface on other grades. I'm still not even sure it's the Color Warper changes, as there are several other things also happening in node 5. HDR grade change, Sat, Hue and Lum Mix change, Primary grade change, Sat vs Hue change, Sat vs Lum change. Could be one of those, or some interaction between some or all of those.

If you have another project that is crashing in a similar fashion in a specific clip, I'd love to get a drp of that to look at.

Thanks so much for all the detective work. Deleting node 5 did not immediately solve all the problems although the crashing was reduced by half immediately. After deleting all nodes that use the color warper, it now seems very stable.
Will keep an eye out, as I make use of the color warper, for any abnormal behavior and keep you posted.
