Resolve 17 Studio Playback Lagging! Help

PostTue Jan 26, 2021 5:52 pm

I am running an iMac i7 3.6GHZ processor with 32GB RAM. I have the stock 8GB graphics cards that come with the iMac but I have 32GB A-Tech RAM cards. I'm running OSX Mojave 10.9.5
I'm working on Resolve 17 Studio beta. From what I know the specs above should be just fine to run resolve 17. However NO MATTER WHAT I do to optimize my system I can't get my videos to playback smooth in any resolution: 720, 1080, 4k, 4k60fps, 6k, ProRes, RAW, mp4, jpg, ect. As soon as I make a 2nd track or add a simple transition it starts to bug out and playback becomes all choppy. Last night when I would drag effects into the timeline it would freeze and buffer for 5 - 10 seconds. (I had this same problem in Resolve 16 studio)

I've done everything suggested though. I am using optimized media and my proxy files are at 1/4 resolution. My timeline settings are set to play the proxy files and all the suggested optimized settings are on. One thing I am noticing is that the frame rate struggles to stay on 1 single rate. It's always fluctuating and can't identify what frame rate the footage is. Usually I'm editing 4k 30fps and I set my project to the same frame rate but still it can't identify it and playback is all laggy. I was thinking it maybe my graphics cars only being 8GB. But Apple is no longer compatible with Nvidia cards and I also heard the iMac won't run without Apple made graphics cards but apple only makes up to 8GB cards for iMac. I don't know much about any of this technical stuff. I'm just a cinematographer. I'm best with a camera. Can someone pleeeazzze help me. I need to get this operational so I can start working.
