Good catch! Sounds like a tricky situation for the devs, but also a bug. If you can't revert a Render In Place to the exact situation before the render, that makes Render In Place too tricky to use. (It can work that way, so it's not totally useless, but having to keep track of things you did that it will properly revert and things you did that it won't revert would mean that in practice few would use it.)
