Difference between Resolve Studio licence & Fusion licence

Hello
I am entertaining buying a licence for Resolve as I am currently enjoying the free version. My main interest is editing & compositing and sound mix. Colour grade is a bonus. I was going to buy the resolve studio licence but I saw that Fusion is sold seperately.
Is Resolve Studio a licenced version of the free app with fusion in it ? What does the fusion seperate app have that the free version does not (apart from the plugins)?

According to what I've been told:

If you buy Resolve Studio 17, the Activation Key/Dongle will work for Fusion Studio 17 as well.
If you buy Fusion Studio 17, the Activation Key/Dongle will work for Resolve Studio 17 as well.

So buying either one will get you the other. The big difference between which of the two to actually purchase, at least for the time being, comes down to Resolve 17 Studio being bundled with the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor for FREE, from authorized BMD resellers. Fusion 17 Studio, OTOH, is not eligible for the promotion.

I can confirm that your Resolve Studio license works on the standalone Fusion Studio v17. (I have the license, not dongle.)

The good is that it's faster in startup and uses less RAM than Resolve. Lean and mean. The bad is that several really cool features in Resolve 17 work via Color or other OFX and aren't in Fusion Studio. (Such as Magic Mask, etc, etc.) But it's essentially free, so I love it.

I found the offer and now I am proud owner of a speed deck. Take me back to my days on a Sony RM 440. That shows my age. Thanks for the advice

True. As I read in reviews, the Speed Editor makes some aspects "fun". The question is: is it "fun again" -- i.e. us old-timers remembering the good old days -- or "fun" for even folks who didn't use jog/shuttle dials back in the day. We tend not to think of "fun" as a professional attribute, but in a creative endeavor it can be important and it gives you experience with your footage that you might not otherwise get with a more Edit-oriented workflow.

For TV editing which can be fast and rough, this is great. For features / docs, it keeps you concentrated on what is important.
For the Final Cut / Premiere Pro one man band generation, many will probably not see the point of it, as they do the edit, grade and finishing all at the same time. (those poor people)
I like editing and so this is fun. The best control console I ever used was the Lighworks / Steenbeck one. Very editor friendly
