Option to Render Cache Using Original Media, Not Proxies?

PostThu Jan 28, 2021 10:30 pm

I LOVE what BMD has done with the new proxy workflow in v17. Much more robust and flexible than optimized media. My only problem is that I lean quite heavily on the render cache because my computer is old and slow. So I cache most of my sequences to accelerate playback and export. It would be great if there was an option for automated background render caching to render based on the original, high-res media if it's available, instead of the proxies, so that no quality is lost if I end up exporting without remembering to dump the cache when I switch off of proxies.

Could always create export presets and then you wouldn't have to remember to untick "use render cache" every time.

But I want to use render cache every time! That's how I make all my exports much faster because the sequence is already cached to prores. Best way to leverage the low performance of my system by render caching while I'm not touching the interface as I do the edit.

There is a separate forum for Feature Requests.

Best practice is to search first, to see if someone already asked. If not, post one idea per thread with a very brief description of the idea in the thread's title.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
