Dear all,
I am just starting, so my apologies for the basic questions, but I could not find a satisfying answer so far:
I am using GoPro H.265, 2,7k footage, which has some 60 MBit/s. When I export this footage to 1920 x 1080 using H.265 codec with "Quality: Automatic"-settings, I get a video clip with only 7,33 MBit/s. However, when I set the quality settings to "Restricted to: 30.000", I do get 30,06 MBit/s. To take it further: When I am using ProRes settings with Apple ProRes 422 HQ encoders, I get a bitrate of 345,48 MBit/s and a 4,4 GB clip for a 1:42 min video.
My questions are:
Why does DaVinci "smash it down" to 7,33 MBit/s in the auto mode, coming from 60 MBit/s?
Is this even a significant loss in quality, so do I have to manually push it put to get higher bitrates or is that not necessary in the end? Is using H.265 encoders a bad idea overall, if I am looking for a good result? (If yes: How is that possible, if the original footage has got the same format?)
Do I have to make the effort to use ProRes and get insanely big files, if I want to have the best possible quality?
Which settings should I use to get a reasonable good result, but at the same time not overdoing it? (I am not looking for the best YouTube settings, but for the best quality result.)
Thank you!
