Fairlight plays slowly and out of sync

PostMon Feb 01, 2021 12:56 am

Simple footage on the timeline with no effects or transitions plays perfectly on the timeline but very slowly and badly out of sync with video in the Fairlight Page.

Sounds like something that might benefit from some pre-rendering? For example, you can render in place (helpful video:
) (although it can take a loooong time to render it in place and, if you want to edit that portion again you have to backtrack some, that can be a nice way to get things synced ... by reducting the processing time for the slow leg of a multi-thread processing element.

You can also reduce resolutions used in processing until the last step when you need that resolution, etc.
One helpful article is: https://www.4kshooters.net/2019/07/06/f ... -computer/

Hope this helps,

Source footage? Timeline Resolution? A lot of variables.

The source footage was Age of Areoplanes taken from the Resolve 16 Beginners Guide Training folder.
The Timeline settings were taken from the Clip settings, ie Prores 23.97 1280x720p
No effects audio or video and no color adjustments or Fusion clips were included.
In the Fairlight Page, the sound is out of Sync with video and the Video Scroller does not update properly.
In the Timeline it plays perfectly at 23.97.

I have tried Render in Place just as an experiment and it makes no difference.

Fairlight is designed to give priority to audio playback. Video playback will suffer when needed.

I wonder if your older i7 is just...too old?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I just installed Resolve 17.0 Build 39 today and on the Fusion page, the audio is missing some sections, and is out of sync with the edit page timeline. By "missing some sections" I mean that it skips parts of the audio mid-word even though it plays continuously. Then by the end of the Fusion timeline, it still hasn't reached the end of the audio track. If I switch back to the Edit page it plays without the skips, and completes by the end of the Fusion clip.

Looking at the audio waveform in the Fusion Keyframes window, I can see the skips. In fact, when I re-insert the mediaIn node that points to the timeline audio, and start playing from the middle of the timeline, the audio waveform will be overwritten before my eyes when the playhead loops back around to the beginning!

This makes it impossible to properly sync motion graphics to the timeline audio without flipping back and forth between the edit and Fusion timelines. Is there a fix or workaround for this?
