Are We Supposed To Use LUT's / CST with DaVinci Wide Gamut?

PostMon Feb 01, 2021 8:47 am

Are we supposed to be using LUT's or CST's in the node tree when working with Panasonic V-LOG 10-bit when using DaVinci YRGB Color Managed and DaVinci Wide Gamut?

Resolve 17 Studio Version 17.08 Build 23

If I apply a LUT in the node tree, then the exposure drops significantly (I have to raise the offset in a node PRIOR to the LUT node from 25 to about 32 just to get my mid-tones about right.)

Here's what it looks like after adding a LUT with no other adjustments:

On the other hand, if I instead use a Color Space Transform then the luminance levels look "normal".

for the color space transform I have these settings:

Input Color Space: DaVinsi Wide Gamut
Input Gamma: DaVinci Intermediate
Output Color Space: Rec.709
Output Gamma Rec.709

Thanks in advance for letting me know what I am SUPPOSED to do.

In the context of DaVinci YRGB Color Managed... forget LUTs even exist... unless you have a specific artistic purpose for which you're using them. You don't need a CST either.

If you'd like to work in DaVinci Wide Gamut, then set project settings to DaVinci Wide Gamut but you need to set your Input color space to V-Log for the clips.

You can do that either in the project settings by going to Custom and changing input or by setting it directly for the individual clips.
