Hello,
I successfully installed Resolve 16 on my Linux Mint 20.1 laptop.
When i try to import the video (.MOV) to Resolve, it gets imported as audio file.. no video.
Tried with Resolve 17 Beta also.. same issue.
Tried converting .MOV to .MP4 using ffmpeg.. Still worse.. no audio and no video when imported.
System: Kernel: 5.4.0-65-generic x86_64 gcc v: 9.3.0 Cinnamon 4.8.6
Distro: Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa, base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal
Machine: Dell Latitude 5480
Graphics: NVIDIA GM108M [GeForce 930MX] - 2 GB
Memory: 32 GB
Please let me know if you need more info.

What codec is it using ? ( ffprobe myfile.mov )
The free version on linux doesn't support most common codecs like H264.
Also doesn't support AAC or MP3 audio for instance.
MP4 and MOV are containers that can have different codecs in them.

My videos are of H264.
It is not working, probably because of that.
May I know which ones work?
Is there a workaround?
MOV:
Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (Constrained Baseline) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuvj420p(pc, bt709), 1280x720, 45219 kb/s, 50 fps, 50 tbr, 50k tbn, 100k tbc (default)
MP4:
Video: h264 (High) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuvj420p(pc), 1280x720, 2951 kb/s, 50 fps, 50 tbr, 12800 tbn, 100 tbc (default)

Yeah, I'm in the same case.
For testing I just converted them to vp9. You can also use a fast mezzanine codec (prores or dnx or ...) which is ideal for editing but very high bitrate.
I'll get the studio version as soon as I can get 17 to run on my setup (atm 16 works but 17 crashes).
You can also switch OS ... (osx and win version have h264)

MacOS is a solution too, it has hardware decoding in the free version.

Thank you so much, Shrivinas!
What's not yet in there are the hardware capabilities of Apple's M1. Or am I not looking hard enough?

Given that 17.1 is the first version to support the Mac Silicon platform, we're reviewing the additional information.
