What processes clip highlights for good?

I'm noticing in some places in my node tree, highlights are clipped for good - meaning they're not recoverable in the next node. Usually that's not the case, but I guess in certain circumstances it is.

An example of this is a node that contains a LUT. Any highlight detail clipped in a LUT node will not be recoverable downstream.

I've also just noticed this in a node that contained some log and primary adjustments as well as a change in low soft clip (high soft clip was unchanged). Highlights before this node were recoverable, after it they are not.

My question: What are the processes that make a node "destructive" - so to speak? Is there a way to tell? A warning in the UI I'm missing? Is there a list somewhere? I only stumbled onto this by accident and it seems like there should be more of a heads up to the user from the GUI.

LUTs can kill your highlights. Don't use them if you can avoid it or place a node before them to control what's coming in.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
