Camera Tracker not working with DaVinci Wide Gamut

PostMon Feb 01, 2021 8:56 pm

If I use the managed color workflow with DaVinci Wide Gamut, the Camera Tracker in Fusion barely registers any tracking points regardless of settings. If I add a color space conversion to sRGB before that, it seems to work reasonably but I'm not sure how you're actually supposed to do it. It's clear that the Camera Tracker is responding poorly to the color space but is this intentional?

The new RCM is sending linear data to Fusion, which may not be optimal for your tracker.
With the node based concept, there is no problem to enhance the contrast/saturation or whatever the tracker needs for its input and apply the transform data to a picture with a different look.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

This makes sense from a technical point of view but it’s hard to adjust the contrast and exposure when you cannot get an intuitive sense of what the tracker would be looking for. When the picture looks normal to me, it obviously lacks detail according to the tracker so what should I then be aiming for with my adjustments?

I'd say: post a picture.

Here's what I mean:

The footage looks like it has plenty of trackable material but the Camera Tracker get nothing. If I switch to Rec.709 for the project, it works fine. Also, if apply a Color Space Transform before the tracker it sort of works.

Of course, this all makes sense when you know it but it's not very clear why it wouldn't work when the image looks like a normal image.

That should be trackable, yes. Maybe a bit of lifting the mids. But if it doesn't work at all, I'd say it's a bug.
Can you post a short clip for testing?
