Data Burn IN - Position Problem

Hi,

I'm trying to export some clips with Data Burn IN. I position the various elements how I like however when I hit render the positions change. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. The attached screenshots show (1) the position I set it to and (2) the position it jumps to after hitting render.

Thanks

Check your Scaling settings maybe?

You most likely rendering at different resolution than timeline and then positions of overlays are not scaled accordingly, but kept original or badly scaled (?).
In this case copy exiting timeline, change its setting to desired final resolution, fix overlays positioning and render.

Thanks for the reply's. I tried your suggestion and still no luck.
So far I've tried with the following settings:
Timeline Res = 1920x1080
Output Scaling (in timeline settings) 1920x1080
Same Problem
Repeated the above plus changed the Timeline Format to 1920x1080 in the project settings
Same problem
Then I tried matching everything to the clip resolution
Timeline Res = 2048x1152
Output Scaling (in timeline settings) 2048x1152
Timeline Format = 2048x1152
Same problem

Anything else it could be?

Are you exporting with those native for timeline resolutions?

Hi Andrew,

I'm not sure I fully understand your question.
The rushes are 2048x1152 and I have 2 tasks:
- create .mxf media of the rushes for the offline edit. (In this case I'm creating DNxHD LB at camera res)
- and create viewing files with Burnt in Timecode.

For the viewing files what I'd like to do is to create 1920x1080 versions but I can't get the BITC positioned where I want it. I only attempted BITC in 2048x1152 in these trouble shooting steps but that hasn't worked either.

If your export resolution matches timeline resolution then I have no idea why your overlays position gets shifted.
I've just tried some BITC and all works fine, even if rendered to different resolution in export settings.

For your 2K BITC export what was the delivery format? Is rendered file 2K?

I'm encoding BITC exports as Quicktime H264 (whether attempting HD or 2K)

And the overlay does still shift when I match export res & timeline res

Have you added BITC as Data Burn-In in color page?
Any proxy files, which may be used for render?

Does it matter what page I'm in when tweaking the Data Burn in position? Whichever page I'm in I open Data Burn in via the Workspace Menu

You mean do I have proxy files to test?

Don't think it matters.

No- are you using any proxy files/pre-renders?

I'm not working with proxy files. I'm trying to create proxy files with BITC from the camera originals

SOLVED.

Just an update in case anyone else runs into this problem.

I found a simple solution. It appears that the BITC I was using was from a saved preset I'd made on an earlier version of Davinci. Even though I was updating the x, y coordinates, they wouldn't stick.
The solution ended up being to trash this preset and make a new one from scratch. Problem solved.

Thanks

Good investigation. Never would have thought of that.

Old projects (when there is big app update) quite often cause issues, not only in Resolve, but in other apps as well.
