Two cameras multiple takes, fastest way to sync?

PostTue Feb 02, 2021 1:04 pm

Say you shoot a music video with two cameras, and do multiple takes with each camera. What it the easiest way to sync the takes to the playback track? If it was five cameras with only one contenius record it would be easy to sync.

I just tried to sync music video, and the sync bin did not work. So I automatched each take to the musik track wich worked for 80% of the clips. Then I just align all track using the playback track as an referens.
But this was a little tedious work. Must be a better way.

Sync bin would have been a better way. Not sure why it did not work. The scratch track from the red is a little low, but no problem to normalize and in the timeline. Seams like the autosync worked good in the timeline, but only syncing one clip to the musik track.

Not sure timecode would worked for this since its multiple takes.

How do you done it?

Just finished yesterday a music video on Resolve 17. All clips was auto-synced in the timeline by waveform. I added the playback song to the first audio track and each video take into a new track

Autosync initially did not work because there was unwanted parts at the begin/end of each take with people talking. Even if you trim in the timeline the unwanted parts, autosync takes the trimmed parts into account. If you want autosync to ignore unwanted parts, you have to trim the clips in the timeline and then create a subclip for each one.

Another problem I faced: I had some takes of the main chorus. Resolve synced them all with the first chorus of the song leaving the second and third chorus without any video take. To overcome this problem I splitted the audio of the song into 3 sections and created a subclip for each one, this way I was able to sync some of the main chorus takes to the second and third chorus of the track.

Make sure the on-set music playback is also being fed to every camera. This makes sync by waveform very simple.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Interesting that trimming of a clip still takes the full clip into account. I was thinking It must be like that since trimming made no difference on troublesome clips. Great to have that confirmed. I wish it could Ben done using sync been. I had no problems with syncing to the wrong chorus Wich I thought would be a problem.

In best of worlds all had synced using sync bin. Perhaps they could add an option to tell Davinci Wich music track to sync a hole been to .

Also I would like a way to convert an manual synced track to a sync bin. I like the idea of not having all clips in the timeline but still have access to all clips that are synced to the same time from the bin.
