Stall at boot but can start with workaround

PostTue Feb 02, 2021 8:54 pm

Good day. So I installed Resolve 17 and when I try to start it my whole system stalls. I end up having to shut down the system and restart to use windows. (win10) I've upgraded to the latest studio driver for my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti video card. (driver 461.40). But that doesn't make any difference. What I can do, that I discovered by accident, is to start Revo Uninstaller and run Resolve from that program and it starts and runs perfectly. Does anyone have any idea what Revo does when it starts the program that keeps it from stalling?

Revo probably force-closes Resolve.

You can do the same from Task Manager. You will probably find the Resolve process is still running when you close Resolve. Many people have reported this. It even happens to me from time to time, although not with the most recent version of 16 of 17 beta.

Thank you for reaching out.

Perhaps I am not explaining this clearly. (or maybe I misunderstand you) I am using Resolve 17. (latest version) but when I double click to run it my system completely freezes...so I can't even access Task Manager. When I open the same file via Revo is starts just fine. I don't really know what you mean by "force-closes".

When I do exit resolve after starting it through Revo the app exits completely. (not found in task manager)

Any other suggestions?

Yeah, I don't know about that. Firstly I don't really know what you mean by "Force close" as it starts resolve no problem. When I try to start it from the exe file my whole system stalls. So... I can't force it to close via Task Manager as the system is stalled. I can only hold the power button until the system hard resets.

What Revo does is it allows me to START resolve without it stalling for some reason.

And just as a heads up I am running resolve 17. so I think the issue you speak of is something different. (or perhaps I misunderstand you)

That's definitely not normal.

The only idea I'm coming up with is to ask if this is a dedicated editing system? No games, office, email, security, development, etc?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
