Activation key not working say contact support

I just received my Resolve activation key and Speed Editor. I have downloaded and installed Resolve 17 Studio on my Windows machine. When Resolve asks for the activation key I enter it and it gives me an error statement saying contact BM support. Can someone please help me solve this issue. I have emailed support with no response and called and I can't get through. Very frustrating. Thanks for any help.

You'll have to keep trying Support. We can't help with that.

If that was yesterday, try again, they seem to have fixed something. If it still doesn't work, try a tethered smartphone.

Im having the same problem. 4 calls to support, 2 email correspondence. they pointed me at the forum. Now were being pointed back to support. What is the deal? The only advice is to tether a smartphone. I did that but my activation code still doesnt work.

To what extent should a "tethered smartphone" help here? On my PC I only have LAN via router ...
Could it be that the key only works with version 16 and only then can you "update" to 17?

It should work either way, no need to install 16 first.
