Purchased 17 activation key

PostWed Feb 03, 2021 6:54 pm

Hi Guys

I was running free resolve 16, just took avantage of the speed editor deal bundled with 17. Arrived today with the dongle, all good.

Backed up my database, downloaded version 17 but sadly my macbook pro only has USBC ports and dongle is USB, can not see a activation key on box or stickers, i had to enter the serial number from boz when i registered on site.

So how do i get a activation key now? dont tell me i have to purchase a adapter for usb to usbc?

I do have an IMAC that i could install on too, but need on the macbook, are you able to get activation from dongle once connected to imac?

Any advice please.

Regards Pete

Which beta version of Resolve 17 are you trying to install? I'd assume it is Studio version...
Is it an Intel Mac or M1?
P.S. And yes - if you're not able to physically plug in the dongle into your MacBook you'll need an adapter...

Downloaded Studio 17.ob8 from resolve site, downloaded but wants my activation key, but only have the dongle, which does not fit!

OKay, are you able to physically plug in the dongle into your MacBook? To the best of my knowledge 16" MacBooks have only USB-C ports, so if the dongle is USB-A (I must admit I've never seen a dongle) you MUST have an adapter...

correct only has 4 x USB C ports

So i need to get an adapter, does this mean the dongle will need to be plugged in to the device to use, that back in the day?

I want on 2 machines, laptop for when on location and then imac in office, really hope i dont need to remember the dongle everytime?

Again - I do not have any experience with Blackmagic dongles, but from other software that comes with similar licensing you'll need to have the dongle plugged in when starting the software and then if you do not close it it will check if the dongle is plugged in once in a while (like every hour, every day and so on). Maybe you should consider returning it (if possible) and get an activation key - it will allow you to activate the Davinci Resolve (and Fusion Studio) on 2 separate machines at a time.
