Video won't show

PostWed Feb 03, 2021 8:04 pm

I've been trying to import my video into DaVinci, but it keeps showing me blank! My video is a .MOV file, that I recorded using OBS, in 30 FPS. Does anyone think they can help me?

MOV is just a container, a box. What's the codec?
And then, OBS is notorious for recording variable frame rates, which Resolve doesn't like. But that would show later, when editing.
I don't think Resolve is the right program for OBS, other game recordings or smartphones.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

I always recommend hardware recorders for screen capture you intend to edit. They typically offer editing friendly options like DNx and ProRes, whereas software normally doesn't.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

If you don't mind me asking what is a codec and how do I look at it? I'm new to editing and thats why I want to get this set up right before I start on some projects and end up losing them to things like this.

The word is based on compression and decompression and describes the method used to reduce file sizes for video (and often audio too) and later expand them for viewing again. You can find out all details about your files with the free MediaInfo. Switch to the second tab and all details are there.
