Bug - Scene Cut Detection and Proxy Creation

PostThu Feb 04, 2021 12:01 am

I'm fairly certain this has been logged as a bug already, todo with sub-clips but this is a somewhat new variation on that so wanted to log it.

When using media that has been imported via Scene Detection, after the Scene Cut has occurred and the sub-clips created, when a user selects all the clips > Right Click > "Generate Proxy Media", a proxy is created for one clip only meaning that all the individual clips need to be run through the process manually, which is extremely time-consuming.

STEPS
1. Media Page
2. Media Browser, locate clip to import with scene cuts
3. Right-Click media > Scene Detection
4. Perform Scene Cut detection and import clips into a Bin
5. Select All clips in the Bin > Right-Click > Generate Proxy Media.
6. BUG - Only a single clip has proxy generated.

Did it work as expected in 16?

Proxy Media and it's associated menu options is a new feature introduced in Da Vinci 17.0.

Scene cut detection and Deliver of individual clips is not. Very similar possibilities, might be worth a try.

Just suggesting workaround.

If Optimized Media can be made to work with sub lips, why shouldn't Proxy Media do as well? For the way they have been hiding Optimized Media features in favor of Proxy ones, such as removing the media page column that says the resolution if the optimized media, I think they are planning to remove the feature in the next version of Resolve. If they do, how will we be capable to work with image sequence files, like the ones from Cintel?

I understand that the file name being the same for every sublcip is the culprit. But then change the way to meme the file of each subclip generated using scene cut detection. Or then understand that it is a subclip and simply create a proxy for the whole file (that is the preferred way for me).

To switch completely over to proxies they'll need to improve this.
