Proxy media vs optimised media

PostThu Feb 04, 2021 4:32 pm

On the surface, Proxy Media and Optimized Media appear similar in function. Both options are
designed to create lower bandwidth, easier to edit versions of source media. However,
Optimized Media is managed internally by DaVinci Resolve, cannot be exported, and is not user
accessible. In contrast, Proxy Media creates fully portable and independent media that can be
easily managed by the user.'

This is what I see a lot but I still don't understand the difference between the two apart from proxies are able to be portable? In that case what's the point of optimised media if they both seem exactly the same except for this

Can anyone elaborate on this please? I've seen it asked a lot on the forums and no answer actually... answers the question very well

Thanks!

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

But this isn't something to do with the beta?

Proxy media is a feature new to 17. Questions about that should be directed to that forum.
