Resolve 17 or 16 for feature documentary with M1

I'm midway through cutting a feature-length documentary using a 2014 Mac Mini (running OS 10.12.6 Sierra) and Resolve 15. Thankfully, my new M1 Mac Mini (16GB RAM) should arrive in the next day or two.

This is a personal project; there's no client and no hard deadline. Technically it's pretty simple; there will be color correction and sharpening but no motion effects or fancy graphics. Am I correct that my best bet would be upgrading all the way to Resolve 17.1 beta, rather than working in Resolve 16 running through Rosetta (assuming this last is even an option)? I don't mind a bit of instability - that's what I've been dealing with running Resolve on a 2014 Mac Mini! - but I obviously don't want to risk some sort of serious corruption that, if the backups were corrupted as well, could lead to the loss of several weeks of work.

Also, assuming I do upgrade to Resolve 17.1, can I jump directly from Resolve 15 to Resolve 17? Or is there some reason to first run the project through Resolve 16, and then upgrade it to Resolve 17? I will of course backup the database and export the entire project as a .drp file before doing any upgrades, just in case there are problems.

Thanks for any advice!
