Quick pc setup advice needed

PostFri Feb 05, 2021 8:22 am

Hi everyone.
I'm deciding between 2 laptop options.
1. Intel processor (6) cores with rtx 2070 (8gb)
2. Amd ryzen (8 cores) with rtx 2060 max q (6gb)
So basically weaker processor with stronger gpu vs stronger processor with weaker gpu.
I work mainly with 6k braw files.
Advice would be helpful.
Thanks

I would suggest reading the white paper on Braw files and see how it is processed. That will lead you to the best answer.

Thanks. I do know the gpu is a bigger player here but was actually interested to see if anyone used similiar specs and which set of compromises give what results.

with a 1070, which is a bit slower than a 2060 but I think more powerful than MaxQ variety I get 50% GPU use with just playing back 6k braw files, before doing anything at all. so the power of the gpu is essentially halved. I think you would want more powerful GPU, also I think 2060 is only 6gig, and 8gig of 2070 would be preferred also

You can pound in a nail with a wrench, the job will get done. But that's not the proper tool for the job.

For this work, Laptops will always be wrenches.

The proper tools here are hammers and desktops. ;)

Build your own system.

I knew this comment will show up at one moment :-) Thanks for your answer but that is not what I need. I am getting a laptop because I need a laptop. And that's the end of the story more or less.

btw that 50% GPU for a gtx1070 is wrong. There must have been something else helping generate the gpu use. It's 25% with 24p 6k braw for playback
