Is this media connected via a wifi network link by chance? I get media offline from time to time for whatever reason, but I notice it occurs to a far greater extent and more frequently when I am connected to the media in question via my wifi-connected NAS (a temporary setup).

You're using only internal drives, August?

It happened to me with beta 8, my clips are on internal SSD. I never had this problem with previous betas.

I've been experiencing this problem thru several other Davinci versions. I love Davinci, but this unresolved issue is making me considering to move to other software. I've tried to isolate the problem but never got a solid answer. It happens both with external or internal drives.

It happens with h.26x files, but with ProRes files as well.

Most of the time I quit DaVinci, open It again and it is fixed (sometimes it is needed to clear the cache, of course). But I never know if it will happen in the middle of a export, as already happened.

I am using DaVinci 17.1 Beta7 in a M1 MacBook Air. Big Sur 11.1

Have you checked the power options for the disks, both in BIOS and in OS? Turn every power saving options off and see if the problem goes away. If so you can reintroduce them one by one until the problem comes back. On my Windows PC there are specific power saving options for the disks and for the USB bus. I suspect that on a laptop those saving options are set very aggressive.

hmmm... that makes sense. I will give it a try, but it would be nice for DaVinci manage that better. Other softwares do not have this issue on notebooks. I live and work in a small sailboat, energy efficiency here is key, I am sure that today it is important for a lot of people that make they're living editing videos on a nomadic lifestyle.

Well, DR is really stressing the GPU and, depending on footage and functions used, the CPU too. Most laptops are challenged then for cooling. Only exception: the new Macs with M1 CPU. They don't get hot and they don't throttle.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
