Davinci asks me to get the paying version (BMPCC4K user)

PostFri Feb 05, 2021 9:24 am

I recently purchased a BMPCC4K and I got my activation code. I downloaded Davinci Resolve Studio and I introduced my ativation code as described. But then I was suggested to get the latest version, 17.1, and once I did it I´m asked to purchase the paying version of the software from a reseller when I work on digital noise reduction. As far as I understood, by buying a BMPCC I get a full and free license for Davinci Resolve Studio. Am I wrong? Am I doing something incorrect? Thanks in advance for your help.

You seem to have installed the wrong version. Look for "Studio".
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

It isn't particularity clear when looking unless you know exactly what you are looking for and familiar with the support page :-( It could do with an overhaul.

Thanks for proving my point. There is no manual. Jut bits ans pieces on a web site! Where is the PDF Speed Editor manual I can download?

What is the battery type?
What is the capacity?
Can the battery be replaced?

How do you turn off Blue tooth?
I have not been able to find out how to do it. It is a serious design defect if the blue tooth can't be turned off.

Most of the "manual" can be found by trawling the forum to discover what people have worked out by trial and error and piecing the notes together. The same questions are being asked time and time again.

Well, the battery is most likely a rechargeable Lithium Ion. There is at least one user on the forum who said that they had been using it for 12 hours straight without problems. When the battery comes to the end of its life I would expect to be able to replace it. I don't know if you can turn Bluetooth off, but you can connect it via usb, which charges the battery, and not pair it to your computer.
Chapter 3 of the New Features Guide, pages 39 - 56, covers its operation.

You think "most likely" will do for declarations on air travel re batteries?
Especially when there are strict requirements on the size/capacity of Lithium Ion batteries on flights.

Charles Bennett wrote: When the battery comes to the end of its life I would expect to be able to replace it.

Was that another guess?

Charles Bennett wrote: I don't know if you can turn Bluetooth off,

SO you don't know.... that is three from three you don't know. That is the problem. A manual in the box or even a downloadable PDF would help.

Charles Bennett wrote: but you can connect it via usb, which charges the battery, and not pair it to your computer.

That we all know from trial and error or spending hours on the forum. Is it in the manual?

Charles Bennett wrote: Chapter 3 of the New Features Guide, pages 39 - 56, covers its operation.

But it covers NONE of the points raised above.

It should be trivial for BMD to produce a manual for the Speed Editor. Especially as so many have asked about it here and they will be a small fraction of those who would like a manual

As to the battery, why don't you ask BM directly or PM Dwaine or Peter?

Stop making excuses it should be in the manual, in the box, or downloadable off the product page.

BTW where in the documentation in the box does it mention Dwaine and Peter?
(or for that mater the support email address?)

Nobody has taken one appart yet ? Or at least looked up the FCC file for it ? (I mean it had to have a FCC ID since it has bluetooth).

Probably the first thing I'll do if I ever receive mine.
A BT cut-off is definitely a must-have.

As for battery restrictions on plane. It's not an issue for sure. Why ?
Well there might be no specs on the battery, but there are specs on its physical dimensions and weight. And given the energy density of the best battery tech using lithium (the only ones restricted on flights), there is no way that thing has a > 100 Wh battery inside.
(Yeah, it's _obviously_ a joke ... products should have a tech-sheet with that kind of stuff ...)

and instantly invalidated the warrantee?

I was tempted but.... let me know what you find.

Any competent design engineer knows this. Which makes me very dubious about investing in any expensive BMD hardware.

I agree that it is going to be <100Wh but if you are also carrying other batteries.... you have no idea what your cumulative amounts are. Yes you are write these things need a tech sheet as well as a full manual.

You are not the first, and likely won't be the last, who mistakenly installed the Free version instead of Studio.

Don't feel too bad.

I didn't. However as you say many do.... It just highlights that BMD have lots of bugs/defects and anomalies that they don't bother fixing. It wouldn't take much to sort out their support page so it is more user friendly.

We have some BMD stuff but our experience so far has precluded us from any major spends on BMD kit until we see more attention to this sort of thing.

Your initial reports belies that claim. Studio won't run without an activation code, so the only way to get the Studio warning when using NR is to be using the Free version.
