Stuttering even when rendered with effects

PostFri Feb 05, 2021 3:25 pm

When I have effects on clips, or zooms and position changes it stutters during playback between clips or when I hit that effect (unless I start the playback on that clip then it's fine)

Anyone know why this is? It's a pain having to start and stop constantly when watching edits

UPDATE - So if I put an adjustment layer over the top of everything, there is no stuttering... the adjustment layer has nothing on it but having it on top stops the stuttering? I'm at a loss as to why this would have any effect here

Best guess is your hardware just isn't good enough, and the AC is forcing a Cache.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

But it works fine if I put an adjustment clip over it?
So basically it stutters on these harder effects unless I have an empty adjustment clip over the areas, then there's no stuttering at all?

You should email support and ask for help. Let them have the DR diagnostics and whatever else they need but my guess is that others could be suffering from this and like you say, having an adjustment layer on top suggests something may be awry with the underpinnings of DR. My gut tells me the devs need to know about this one and sending in a ticket is a good way for them to dig deep.

I have this problem too and elaborate on it in a different thread. I was under the impression that reporting it here IS reporting it to the BM folks. Is this inaccurate?

Definitely. They are monitoring this, see all the answers in blue.

Dave,

Can you detail your setup - hardware, drivers, USB peripherals etc (see FAQs) - as well as some context on your work - resolution, codec, what kind of effects etc - so we can get a better idea?

A link to a log archive and an exported DRT/DRP file woud give us a starting point on trying to recreate the issue.

Thanks

Windows 10, AMD Ryzen 7 1700X, 32GB Ram, GTX1070 is my current set up. I can have a look at getting that other stuff but I'm away on a shoot for a couple of days.

I was using some quicktime pro res proxies at 1920x1080 resolution, the effects I used were just a directional blur, and speed ramping.

Basically just doing a speed ramp between two clips and adding some direcitonal blur on both of them in between. Also I did some Panning on zooming on the next clip, and it would stutter from the pan. Here is a quick video I made on youtube which will show you the footage and where the stuttering is and what happens when I put the adjustment layer over it, sorry it's a tutorial I made about it but I'm away right now and can't get anything else from the project

(Also thanks for the reply, these forums are much better than the Adobe ones)

David,

As a test, can you deselect Selection Follows Playhead in the timeline menu and see if the playback still stutters?

As requested, a link to a DRP and an NFO file would help. See this post for instructions on NFO.

Thanks
Shrinivas
