Audio Ducking broken in 17b8?

Audio Ducking worked fine in 17b7. In 17b8 it's not working in the exactly same unchanged timeline of the same project. Did not reinstall b7 yet however to check.

Has anybody the same effect?

Regards

Josef

Hi Josef,

Still works for me in 17b8 for a video completed in b7.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Well....

Uninstalled 17b8 and reinstalled 17b7 and AudioDucking was working.
Uninstalled 17b7 and reinstalled 17b8 again and AudioDucking didn't work again.

Repeated this twice - everytime the same result.

Everything in the same timeline(s).

Interesting: If I open the Dynamics-Window of the track that shall lower volume (the atmo from the camera in moments where voice-over should be heard) and play the timeline the Sidechain-Bar shows that it works. The Audio-Out however keeps the volume of the atmo-track. Looks like the computed damping does not reach the audio-final level. (I'm not an Audio specialist....)

Cheers

Josef

When you say "ducking" do you mean manually key framing audio or some kind of side-chain, or is there a ducking plugin that I've not used? (And is this in Edit or Fairlight?)

Thanks all for Your comments. Since we do local TV my Audio knowledge is sufficient for the tasks I have to do.... :-)

So I prepared several Media to explain the effect:

Audio-Keyframing works as it always did (Timeline from 17b8 with not working AudioDucking. The same timline in 17b7 works without any Audio-Keyframes....):

Image

Here a small Video from 17b7 with working Audio Ducking:

http://www.margha.com/bmd/Ducking_17b7.mp4

(The video isn't mine - just got it to work on)

In the Screenshots of the Dynamics-Editor You see in version 17b7 the side-chain-bar on the right is at -11dB and the Audio 1 at -32dB - as it should be. In the moment when Audio 2 (the voice over) is active Audio 1 has to be quiet. Works as intended.

Here now the same Video from the same timeline with the same parameters from 17b8 with NOT working Audio Ducking:

http://www.margha.com/bmd/Ducking_17b8.mp4

In the Screenshots of the Dynamics-Editor You see in version 17b8 the side-chain-bar on the right is at -11dB - as in 17b7 and the Audio 1 at -17dB. In the moment when Audio 2 (the voice over) is active Audio 1 in NOT quiet although the side-chain should cause it to be quiet

Image

You see here the much higher output-bar left to the side-chain-bar.

Therefore I think Audio-Ducking is broken in 17b8. Since it is much work in editing Audio with keyframes - what I did for 14 years now - I like the comfort of Audio Ducking and return to 17b7 until this is fixed. ;-)

Have a nice Sunday.

Josef

The Fairlight Dynamics Processor's Sidechain appears to not be functional in Fixed Bussing mode in beta 8. In Flexi Bus mode, the Sidechain function is operational.

Perhaps roll back to beta 7 where both Fixed and Flexi Bussing modes are functional.

Thank You! :D
