RTX 3080 Crash During Rendering

Hello all, my Resolve is crashing during rendering on what should be a relatively simple color grading, though the files are rather large (input is 1.5 hours at 5:1 BRAW 60fps, outputting at 4k 60fps H.264 for YouTube). The crashing usually happens within the first 10 minutes of render. I don't believe the program is overtaxing my hardware. I'm a complete neophyte when it comes to Resolve.

Hi, Peter. Thanks for your help. I found your replies in other threads and have downgraded to 460.89 (after using Display Driver Uninstaller). Also, I'm running Window 10 Pro 20H2, OS build 19042.746, Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0. Below are my latest logs after installing 460.89. I have attached the log file.

I've further switched between the four permutations of Nvidia Studio Drivers 461.40 and 460.89 and Resolve 17 and 16. In the latest crash I am getting BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I'm no longer sure whether this is a Resolve or Windows 10 issue. I did notice that when I'm rendering in a 30fps timeline (as opposed to 60fps) the program is much less likely to crash.

I have now experienced 2 serious crashes during rendering a tracker in fusion.Crashes so severe that the project will not reopen.
Here's the crash log. I have also sent an email to Blackmagic Design asking that they refund my money for the software and speed editor under warranty as being unfit for purpose.
Here are my system specs:

I've reseated my RAM and completed MemTest86 for the last 25 hours and it shows no errors. I've also reinstalled 460.89 Studio in Safe Mode, first using DDU. I've attached a log including my latest crash.

I looked into the event viewer and saw...

However, I believe this could just be incidental and not the cause of the crashing.

@Godwin: Please provide a Windows System Information .NFO file. Open System Information, then select the File menu, and then Save to generate the .NFO file.

Many of your crash logs show unknown CUDA error 999 messages, which is very unusual.

Make sure your 3080 card is in a x16 slot and properly seated.

Your specific 3080 card requires 3 (!) 8 pin PCIe power connectors from the power supply. Does your power supply provide that? Are you using any weird Y power adapters? Make certain all the power connectors are properly seated.

When Resolve is rendering, that forces the GPU to use maximum power. The fact it's failing when rendering with unknown CUDA errors makes it seem likely that it's an issue with the power feeding the card.

Hi Dwaine, thank you for chiming in. I just re-seated all the cables (into power supply and video card) as well as the video card itself into the PCIe slot after blowing compressed air into them. Each of the 8-pin connectors has a dedicated cable so there are no Y-splits or daisy-chaining going on. It's a Corsair 1000w power supply.

I was able to get Resolve to crash again afterwards so I have a fresh log for you. The .NFO file is a touch too big to upload so you can download it from my Google drive here (link). Google drive thinks it's an audio file but it is still downloadable.

Thank you, I did know about these videos but you're right they should be more widely known. It's great to get it straight from the horse's mouth.

I've found the problem and was able to successfully render a 1:30 hour clip at 4k 60fps. In the end this was not a DaVinci Resolve issue. Turns out the early Gigabyte x399 Designare has a less than ideal XMP implementation. After running MemTest84 with single core without problem, I then ran the test with the parallel CPU option which yielded enough errors for the program to halt the testing. It was the XMP memory timing which was causing system instability. I searched and found the solution which is outlined by YouTube's Hardware Unboxed channel, video is here:

I'm still figuring out how to run my memory at the full 3,200mhz but am glad for now I'm able to render successfully.
