Choppy playback WITH hardware acceleration

Hi there,

since a couple of weeks, when I play a simple h264 (XAVC) UHD 25fps clip in the Edit page, the audio gets super choppy, like a stutter effect. XAVC All Intra Footage is fine, though. Same happens, when I add a XAVC clip with no audio ontop of a XAVC All-I clip.

I can fix this by turning OFF "decode h264/h265 using hardware acceleration" in the preferences menu. But that can't be the solution.
Any ideas?

Win 10 Pro, Davinci Resolve Studio 17 Beta 8 (happend in previous versions, too)
AMD Ryzen 3900X
Nvidia Geforce RTX 3090 (newest drivers)
32GB RAM
NvMe Drives
Steinberg UR28M Audiointerface

This is completely irrelevant to the question, and I do see this a lot when English is a second language, but the word since is used with specific times.

Since 3:00
Since Last June
Since 2015

The word for is used with durations.

For a couple weeks.
For a little while.
For a few years.

More relevant to the question at hand:

As a general rule, terms like "latest", "current", "newest", etc. are meaningless

It's best to list out the specific version number when asking for help.

GeForce Game Ready 461.40. This was also the case with the driver version before that.

Same problem here using latest Beta 9 with my Sony ZV-1 files (1080 HD in XAVC S HD).

My system:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
Windows 10
Nvidia Geforce 1080 TI
Studio Driver version 461.40

If I install latest Resolve 16.2, the problem goes away.

I can upload the sample MP4 if you need it

So, I upgraded to the release version of 17 and still had this issue.

I went ahead and created a brand new project in 17, imported the file and reset all my Workspace UI layouts and it played fine.

Just posting this in case anyone also has this issue.

I noticed this with a big project I was working on - it was laggy as all get-out. I finished editing it and then duplicated the project and it worked fine. The original project was corrupted. An upgrade to Beta 9 allowed me to at least delete the corrupt project.

So, maybe try duplicating the project?

I also had issues with that 461.10 Studio Driver on my laptop - it would crash, Davinci Resolve would crash. I switched back to the Game-Ready Driver, and my reliability has gone up significantly.
