Scaling vectors question - Continuously rasterize?

PostMon Feb 08, 2021 1:31 pm

Hi!

I create E-learning courses and use a lot of vector graphics, and I have to take a lot of workarounds to After Effects because the quality of vectors is really bad (probably beacuse I don't know the right workflow).

If I want to include a company logo somewhere in the image, and scale it down, there are terrible jaggies. It confuses me, since scaling DOWN usually provides a clearer image in other programs.

I create logos with transparent backgrounds in Illustrator, export as PNG or EPS... EPS cannot be imported into Davinci and PNG files do not behave the way I want them. I guess I am looking for a feature like the "Continuously Rasterize" feature in After Effects.

These logos and vectors scale and behave and look fantastic in After Effects, but I cannot get it to work in Davinci. What am I missing?

I refuse to dive into Fusion, if that is the solution, that is the most unintuitive and cumbersome peace of software I have ever seen, and I refuse to even open it... :D

I haven't tested, but maybe look at bringing in an .eps file via Loader node in the Fusion page.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

When I use vector in fusion, I’m using SVG. You can convert SVG from illustrator. Please try this.

Thank you, but is there no way to do this directly in the davinci edit timeline...? I absolutely despise Fusion...

No, there isn't.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

To the best of my knowledge, all NLE's will rasterize media as soon as it's added to a timeline. So whether AE or Fusion, you need VFX software for vector graphics.

All vector graphics are always rasterized, there is no way around it, can’t show vector data on display. But there is nothing preventing doing transforms on vector data first, then rasterizing, in Resolve or any other NLE. So it could be a feature request.
