How to use expander on buss in Fairlight?

The expander/gate option within the dynamics is not available on a buss. In the post here https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=118618 a method is described to work around this by patching the buss to a timeline track to make the processing available. I'm trying to do that without success.

I went to Patch Input/Output. For the source type I selected "Bus Out" and selected a bus I previously created that is sourced from an existing timeline track that has my audio clip. For the destination type I selected "Track Input" and selected a new timeline track. When I playback I don't see any audio on the new timeline track (no meter activity). Perhaps I'm doing this entirely wrong?

I also tried just routing the existing timeline track with my audio clip to a new timeline track directly to see if I'm understanding basic patching/routing, ie source type of "Track Direct" set to my existing timeline track with an audio clip and destination type of "Track Input", set to my new timeline track and I still see no audio meter activity.

Again, what I'm looking to accomplish is the ability to use the expander/gate functionality of dynamics on a buss, so if the above strategy is not right then please advise on the correct strategy and how to accomplish it.

Thanks!

Is the Timeline Track in Thru mode?

Thanks, that was it. Now that I see it working the total solution/workaround seems kind of unwieldy for what I'm doing. Perhaps there's a better way?

I have multiple timeline tracks with audio clips as their source for which I want to apply a single expander. I'm feeding each of those tracks in pre-mode as a Buss Send to my user-created buss (and muting the original tracks so they contribute no dry sound output), and routing that buss to a new timeline track set to Tru Mode so that I can perform the expander on it. The output of that new timeline track is to my main buss.

Insert an Expander plugin across the Buss.

I originally couldn't find one, which lead me down the path I've taken. Is there an expander hidden in one of the built-in effects that I overlooked? Or do you mean a third-party plugin?

Currently no Fairlight AFX Expander available, so it would have to be a third party plugin.
