Rumor: GeForce RTX 3060 February 25th release date.

PostMon Feb 08, 2021 4:43 pm

Hi.

Several sites now strongly suggests a February 25th release date of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060.
It is expected to have 12GB GDDR6.

Release isn't the problem.

Available is the goal.

Hi.

You are properly right. But I expected the miners would prefer RTX 3080's, as seen in this picture:

The GPU market today is bonkers!

Four year old 1070, 1080, 1080ti Pascal GPUs are today selling close to their original release MSRP prices.

Crypto miners in China are now resorting to mass buying laptops with 3000 series GPUs.

Maybe the next flooding from a glacier breaking down will wash the whole array away …

Has anybody ever succeeded in reclaiming the wasted energy? Even Aluminium can be recycled to a good degree, but this is just a new religion, a belief system based on imaginary value.

Could also be an Octane render farm. LOL

I was (and still am) looking to add a second RX 580 or at least an rx 570 both 8GB, but even those are twice the price now. Used 8GB ones are also sold at prices higher than regular before the Event. 8GB is said to be required for Ethereum. All this happened while I was cowardly contemplating the move.

That's beyond insane...

That rack alone has 78 RTX cards, probably eating 28 kW 24/7/365 at the power outlet.
That is 1717 MWh per year. Or 1.72 GWh. For ... what?
On average my office is consuming 5 MWh per year.

For comparison - in our city of Graz a client of mine recently built the Murkraftwerk, a hydroelectric power plant for 80 Mio Euros. It can produce 82 GWh per year, supplying energy for 20.000 households.
Or for 47 of those miner rigs...
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Or 67 of Delorean's jumps into the future. In my mind this is equally surreal.

Careful - you're mixing up power consumption (GWh/year) and electrical power output (GW).

The Murkraftwerk has an power output of 17.7 MW, while the Delorean needed 1.2 GW.
Constantly charging the Delorean would have eaten 73.6 TWh per year and you would have needed to build ~900 of those hydroelectric power plants.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Right, but Delorean's purpose may well be fulfilled with 67 jumps/year (instantaneous draws, because you don't jump constantly), just as a mining rig's constant draw per annum.
You're actually saying the Murkraftwerk couldn't produce enough power to kick-start Delorean's jumps?

That's right. But you could charge a super capacitor over 68 hours and then release 1.2 GW at once...

And to think many 2080Ti owners sold theirs for $500-600 when the RTX30X0 launch was near .....

There are also rumors of a 12GB 3080 now, cut down from the Original 20GB plan as it comes too close to the RTX3090 for a lower price ...

My MSI branded GTX 1650 Super died in the first few days of February.

Today, two and a half months later, MSI tells me that they can't fix it and they can't replace it. The best they can do is a cash refund. Thanks, boys.

By an incredible stroke of luck, I've managed to snag an RTX 3060 with 12GB for about $600 USD. Considering that cards are virtually unobtainable anywhere, I count myself fortunate indeed.

I just hope Resolve will like it. Having my new Speed Editor equipped machine unusable for most of this year has been painful.
