Where and how to store cache.

Hi everyone..

I am a complete, utter and total novice with video editing, have never done any before, ever.

I do not really understand video codecs, caches, or much of anything to be honest, but I do have a copy of Resolve 16, a Nikon Z7, and 7000 travel photos and video which I would like to make into a dozen 1 hour long films. I'm not trying to do anything particularly technical at the moment, just cross fading and some dynamic zooming, a few titles and some nice presentation.

I do not have a huge computer, just a Dell XPS i7, 16 gb Ram, laptop and some 1TB SSD's to work from. I have just done a days work and have about an hours film in rough edit form. I had another few hours to go with that, but my program started to seriously glitch and slow down...and after a few more edits it went white, showing the spinning wheel of death for over an hour. I looked at the storage manager, and it was almost full, much to my surprise. Resolve has made over 70 gig of cache files, and chogged the laptop up. Having read a few threads on this forum, I see that is normal, if not much desired... but how to proceed? Can I tell it to make these cache files on the SSDs? I thought I was working from the SSDs anyway, as I have the project stored there, along with the raw media. Could anyone tell me how to direct the cache to be stored on the SSD? Like, tell me step by dumb-ass step how to do it please? Am I correct in thinking that after the project is finished and exported, these cache files can be deleted freeing up space?

I have done exactly 1 day with Resolve, I'm loving it, and I'd like to learn a lot more! I really cannot get a bigger setup for editing as I am on the hoof all the time, small is golden in my world.

Thank you in advance, and apologies for asking such noob questions :)

Martin.
