Why Do I Keep Getting This Frame Rate Popup?

For reasons I cannot fathom, whenever I start a new project and import a clip, I get this popup:
The clip(s) have a different frame rate than the current project settings.
Would you like to change your timeline frame rate and video format to match?

It does this with 4K clips from Sony A7SII, and Sony A7SIII at 29.97, & 59.94. The project settings I have are CORRECT for these frame rates. When I tried clips from an older 1080 camcorder, I didn't get this popup. The metadata also confirms that the frame rates in my project settings are correct.

Anyone have any idea why Resolve is doing this? Is it a Sony thing? Of course, I'm clicking Yes, to let Resolve do what it wants to, but it's just strange.

Specifically for your example, 29.97 and 59.94 can occur in drop-frame and non-drop frame framerates. 29.97 and 29.97 DF are different frame rates. And Resolve checks if you intended to match them.

An easy example for you to try:
import the "older camcorder" clip, and an example Sony A7S clip to the media pool... in an empty project if that appears safer for you.
Right click each in the media pool, clip attributes, under Video Frmae Rate. If one of them has a Drop-frame setting and the other does not. That would explain the difference in behavior.

Another example:
Make an empty project, under project settings >Master > Timeline Frame Rate, set the appropriate frame rate (29 or 59).
Notice that the drop-frame option becomes active. Match this project setting to the Sony A7S clip attributes from example 1.
Import the Sony clip.
Check if the popup occurs.
Hit undo, so Resolve considers the project empty again.
Invert this setting now.
Import the same clip.
Observe for the popup.

Hopefully this clarifies the behavior.

Thank you very much!
What I tried after reading your post was to create a new project. In my settings, the drop frame box wasn't ticked. I checked the tick box and then imported a Sony A7SIII clip. The popup did not appear.
Up until now, I was unaware of the different 29.97, and 59.94 formats. If you will pardon my ignorance, what exactly is the difference between a drop frame frame rate and a non drop frame frame rate?
