DaVinci Resolve 17 doesn't start

I've used Resolve 16 without problems on my Mac (Mojave 10.14.6) and wanted to upgrade to 17 Beta. Now, it doesn't start - I always get the message "The last time you opened DaVinci Resolve, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?" (see attachment).
It doesn't matter whether I choose "Don't reopen" or "Reopen" - it crashes. I've tried de-installing and reinstalling multiple times, restarting the computer. Going back to Resolve 16 doesn't work - the same problem. Has anyone encountered this before and has found a solution?

I installed the last update to Resolve 16 but never used it because I decided I wanted to go straight to 17 beta instead.

Was it 17.0 beta 8, free version you tried?

If so, can you see the FAQs and how to generate a diagnostic log when not within the app.. its at the bottom.
place the zip file on dropbox or similar and a link to the path here with a space in the path so the forum doesnt think its a link

Thanks again! Yes, it was the 17.0 beta 8, free version I tried. I tried to post the link to the log file but got the error message that I am not allowed to post an URL - I put several spaces in the link.

What happens if you disconnect the external display?

It's a tower PC (Mac -only one screen). Disconnecting and reconnecting hasn't helped, unfortunately.
