Total beginner looking for advice on unusable performance

PostMon Feb 08, 2021 8:34 pm

Hi there,

Two things off the bat: One I'm completely new to this and a trifle overwhelmed and two I'm under no illusions that the hardware I have is not suitable for heavy video editing, but for now it's the best I can do.

I'm running the free version of resolve on the following system:
Hp Compaq Elite 8300 SFF Core i7 3770 3,4 GHz - SSD 240 Go RAM 16 Go
Capacité de stockage : 240 Go
Type de stockage : SSD
Interface du disque dur : Sata
Mémoire : 16 Go
Type mémoire : ddr3
Modèle : Compaq Elite 8300 SFF
Vitesse du processeur : 3,4 GHz
Marque du processeur : Intel
Type du processeur : Core i7 3770
Nom de la Carte Graphique : Intel HD Graphics 4000
Système d'exploitation : Windows 7
Pavé numérique : Non
Lecteur de cartes : Non
Capacité de stockage SSD (Go) : 240
Marque : HP

I expected that it might prove difficult and require some hacky workarounds but my first two benchmark tests in resolve were actually (slightly) worse(!) than my utterly ancient garbage laptop.

Attempting to open and playback an existing video file (no editing or anything) resulted in between 0 and 0.5 frames per second playback. Test two was to make a four second video consisting of a single static image and no audio, which yielded playback of exactly 0 frames per second (the frame would only appear after playback had supposedly ceased). I get that video editing is intensive especially without a proper graphics card but.....

I have tried the proxy mode as well as reducing the timeline resolution to whatever the lowest option even is in the settings but so far nothing works at all. I would be grateful for any suggestions!

I highly recommend you move to W10 as Resolve is not designed for W7.

Ah, it is actually windows 10 (Windows 10 Professionnel, version 19042.746). I copied the info from the original product listing for the computer which for some reason said windows 7.

You may want to try a different program until you can upgrade.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
