Make vertical video of horizontal footage

I hate vertical video.
Thinking to try youtube's new "Shorts" feature which requires vertical video, so I'd like to crop some of my horizontal 4k footage from my drone to 1080x1920 instead of rendering it to 1920x1080 like usual. Of course, I have to carefully choose the clips and sometimes the part I want won't be in the center of the clip.
Suggestions from the experts?

Well, it's easy: define a vertical timeline, do a center crop instead of scaling and then zoom and/or move it around to your heart's delight.

Don't have 17 yet. I usually wait to update till the terror and panic over the new version starts to subside.
