audio issue with 'Replace selected clip'

PostTue Feb 09, 2021 11:39 pm

I ran across an audio issue with 'Replace selected clip', if the timecode doesn't match between the two clips.

SETUP:
I have a clip 'example.mp4', and use ffmpeg to transcode it to 'example.mov' (in this case to normalize color space and preconvert h.264 to ProRes). If I happen to (totally hypothetically :( ) use an older version of ffmpeg which gets the timecode wrong, I end up with example.mp4 which has a start TC of 18:25:58:43, but with example.mov having a start TC of 18:44:43:26. Dropping both clips into the timeline, they behave normally (both having audio), and show their respective starting timecodes.

REPRODUCE:
If I right-click and 'Replace Selected Clip…' to swap example.mov in for example.mp4, the Start TC updates to that of the swapped in file, the video track sorts itself out to begin on the same frame, but the audio track is lost. If I replace example.mov with example.mp4, the same thing happens.
