Green and Red Frames issue

PostWed Feb 10, 2021 12:05 am

Experiencing annoying bug right now where I get random green and red frames during playback and also in my stills gallery thumbnails. I can't compare shots in Resolve using the split screen feature without one frame being previewed in this way, so basically can't compare shots using stills at the moment.

I've upgraded to 17.1 Beta 8 but the bug is still present.

Using new 13" MBP with M1
OS11.1 Big Sur
16GB RAM

I've attached photos too.

What's the source of those clips and which codec do they have? Can you post a sample for testing?

Source files are RED .r3d, UHD, 23.98. DR timeline is set to 1080HD. Can't upload a sample at the moment. Having issue with my external RAID1 volume mounting to my M1 Mac because I just updated to OS 11.2. RAID software won't mount drive to latest OS update

I tend to never use a major update of the OS on a production machine before at least half a year is over.
Resolve still works under Mojave or Catalina.

I hear ya. I tend to never buy into a first generation computer chip either, but my old laptop was from 2012 and I caved to all the rave M1 reviews on YouTube. Anyway, everything was working fine on OS 11.1 with the exception of the aforementioned bug. I'm hoping DR 17 is officially launched soon. I'm tired of running beta software on my new computer, but it was to be expected.

Let me know if you have any further thoughts on the bug I'm currently dealing with. I was able to restore my M1 MBP to 11.1 so now my RAID is mounting without any issues.

Your Red footage is shot in UHD? I have no problem playing even Red 8K if set to 1/8 decode on a MB Air M1 with 8 GB RAM.

Can you post a short clip to compare?

I'm a novice at posting samples to any forum. How can I upload a short clip which will be small enough to attach to my reply for this thread? What settings would I use in DR to be sure you get the same format and codec as the source files? I tried uploading my shortest clip directly from my source files folder, but it's 4gb and this forum rejected it.

I'm a rookie.

There are many services for uploading larger files, like Dropbox, WeTransfer, Google Cloud etc.

Zip your original file and upload it and post the link here. As a novice user, put a space somewhere in your link or it'll get refused.

Sorry for not replying sooner. Work and domestic distractions kept me away for a while. It appears I have resolved the issue. Recently I was getting a lot of GPU error 0 messages in DR. I took a look at some other forum threads and changed my memory and GPU preferences. I was set to "auto", so I switched the setting manually to Open CL. It had been set to metal automatically. No more GPU error 0 messages and no more Red, green or rainbow colored frames.
