[Linux] Speed Editor not detected on Bluetooth

PostThu Feb 11, 2021 12:37 am

Hello,

I can't get DR17b8 to detect Speed Editor when it is connected via Bluetooth. USB connection works fine, the unit appears on the list of connected BT devices when I unplug the USB cable, but Resolve sees it only on wired connection. Battery is charged to 98%.
I tried doing "Factory Reset" in control panel setup, but it did not help. There are no clues in the log files (system, main log in Resolve's install dir, and logs in local user config directory).

The Speed Editor is not likely to currently work out of the box over Bluetooth on Linux due to a bug in the Linux Bluetooth daemon. This is a workaround:

The Speed Editor can connect over BLE to the Linux machine, but it won't work with Resolve due to a bug in the BLE daemon.

It's possible to get it to work: you need this BlueZ patch I wrote applied:

https://github.com/bluez/bluez/commit/3 ... bb509c9b62

Or, more specifically, you need the latest master of BlueZ built and installed locally.

Since implementing the above patch may be beyond the skills of many users, most people will want to just wait for it to make its way into the next BlueZ release and grab it from their distro package manager.

Thanks. I rebuilt and reinstalled system bluez package with the patch applied, but it did not help. I guess I'll have to wait until the latest version of bluez trickles down to the distro.

Hello Dwaine,

Thanks for this. Unfortunately the patch did not fix the issue. Speed Editor is working fine when used via USB-C, but despite connecting via BT Resolve Studio does not detect the device. Has there been any more work on this recently?

Thanks in advance,

Is there a known good version of the bluez package that supports the Speed Editor under Linux? On my system (Gentoo Linux) my bluez package is 5.58. The Speed Editor over BLE does not seem to work with Resolve under this version. Does anyone know of a version of bluez that works with the Speed Editor and Resolve?

I've logged a ticket with Resolve support and been informed that the only officially supported distribution is CentOS. Going to try and see if they provide any special patches to their bluez packages and see if I can replicate it in Arch. it

I was patching bluez (5.52) with that patch on RHEL 8.4. The patch applied without issues. But neither the Control Panels setup nor Resolve seems to detect/enable the speed editor.

It's for sure not going to work with anything less than bluez 5.56. And getting that on RHEL/CentOS seems problematic.

Looking into this on Ubuntu 21.04, which does have bluez 5.56, I still can't connect to the Speed Editor.

It's being looked into. But if you can't get to bluez 5.56, don't waste any time trying to make it work.

Hey Dwanye

Any update on the bluetooth bug on Ubuntu

Davinci Studio work flawless on Linux distro but not on Windows . Most of the time memory is consumed by the OS for unwanted application being run at the background on Windows

Hoping to see a resolution bluetooth bug on Ubuntu

I'm on 21.04, but bluez is currently 5.56, not 5.66. Could that be the issue?

I'm sorry. That's a typo on my part, and I'll fix it in the original message.

5.56 is the correct current version of bluez on Ubuntu 21.04.

The issue is still being looked into.

Hi Dwaine!

I'd like to ask if there has been any progress on the SE bluetooth connectivity issue with Linux. I'm running Fedora 39, with blues 5.72, and my SE is still not recognized by DR 18.6.5 when using BT link.

Thank you. Can we expect the BT mode to ever work with Linux?

I don't expect it to work with our current Rocky 8.6 ISO image. Can't speak to the future.
