Optimized Media still have connection questions

I already made my optimized media (from UHD) for the B roll on a concert doc but now for my editing I''m finding I want to relabel these shots. Will optimized media still find them or should I remake them?

This brings up a 2nd issue:
With Proxy media I can tell right away whether I'm using the proxy or my original footage by looking at the Metadata, but I don't seem to be able to do that with Optimized Media. Is there any way to tell whether Resolve is actually using optimized media for a given shot ? I'm mostly just doing "half" quality and only going down to ProRes LT so its not obvious from the quality.

This brings up a third issue also:
Say you start editing with original footage and then decide you need optimized media quality or need say a lower quality OM. Can you make your optimized media after you've already been editing and still , have it connect ? Or maybe copy the project and remake the OM at a lower quality and still have it connect?

BTW - Thanks everybody for your help .

You can rename clips in a project, no problem. Never rename media on the hard drive.

Under Playback menu, if the option to use Optimized Media is checked, then it's being used.

You can remake Optimized Media any time and it'll work.

Thanks again Jim. But out of curiosity say in a project you have only made some of your optimized media or perhaps you without thinking changed the location or name of some of it. Would you have any warning or any way to double check that when you checked the optimized media menu item?

I just looked at a couple of projects that didn't have any optimized media and if I check "Use Optimized Media if available" nothing tells me I don't have any.

I guess you would know if your project started stuttering that there was a problem, but how would you know what caused the problem: Did your OM get unlinked because you moved or mislabelled something, was your OM not compressed enough , etc?

In version 16, you can add a column in List view showing whether or not Optimized Media is generated for clips.

In version 17, there currently is no way to know. If you weren't certain about the existence of OM for any given clip, you'd have to create it anew to be sure.

I'm on 16 and that helps - Thanks .
Why in the world would they leave it out of 17?
Have people requested it before its out of BETA?

17 made a fundamental change under the hood with Optimized Media, such that it's now available to any project in the database. So if you reuse the same difficult-to-play media over and over, you need only generate OM once.

It's a nice improvement, but still in development.
