DR 17 Beta 8 - How does Render In Place Work?

PostThu Feb 11, 2021 3:14 pm

I have yet to figure out how to get Render in Place to work, does anyone have it working? I know it should be simple > right click a Fusion comp in the Edit page and Render in Place which I believe then renders the clip out from Fusion to a video clip to improve performance.....but, it does not work for me. I right click a Fusion Clip > Render in Place and absolutely nothing happens.

I watched a YouTube video and in the video a new menu popped up and he was able to select the format, resolution, etc. for the rendered clip. Mine does not do that, am I missing something? Is there somewhere else I am supposed to go first to set this up?

If you go to Help>Reference Manual, a New Features Guide will open offering all the details of things like this. Maybe give that a read? See if there are any caveats.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Unfortunately that guide is no help. Everything makes it sound like it should simply work including that guide. I right click > Render in Place > nothing at all happens, no context menu appears. I may need to try a full uninstall and reinstall but I'm working on too many projects at the moment to do that.

The Render In Place function doesn't work for Fusion Comps or Adjustment Clips as added from the Edit page. It will work if you open a clip in the Fusion tab and add Fusion effects or if you convert a clip to a Fusion Clip on the Edit Page timeline.

Thank you for the explanation, that means this feature won't help me at all. My biggest problem is always Fusion motion graphics titles that I place over the video clips from the Edit page. They start caching if you make the slightest change to anything and they make the playback stutter while they are caching.
