Folks,

I can now attest that there is definitely a bug in the v17. This is the second project in about a month, which after an edit made mid-project, started choppy playback on the EDIT page. It plays nicely on the CUT page though, which I don't use. (I already wrote about this bug here, in this topic https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=131790).

I can attach a screenshot but I doubt it will be of any use. I won't give all the stats about my system again, but I'll say that a few days ago I edited a 5.7K timeline in real-time, colored it, sharpened, used some H.265 footage and it played nicely from start to finish.

This time, I made a simple J-cut, used 2 video tracks from my BMPCC 6K, 39 clips in total and it became unwatchable. Semaphore displays 22-23 FPS but the footage is clearly not playing at more than 5 I'd say. It's back to another program and starting from scratch I'm afraid.

Cheers! :(

UPDATE:

I am sad to report the following - I uninstalled DR 17, installed v16, re-did the whole project from scratch and the same thing happened. My workflow if it helps:

import into bins;

sort metadata, scenes, takes, ...;

create smart bins;

sync audio/video;

start editing in the EDIT page;

3 clips on the timeline, V1, insert 4th clip into V2 (B-roll);

unlink 4th clip, delete it's audio;
Problem starts at the last step - as soon as I unlink and delete audio from the 4th clip, playback drops to about 5FPS (Which v16 correctly reports, unlike v17 which reported 22-23FPS at this point).

I have the similar problem
Try turn on "linked selection" to smooth playback also try to turn off "Selection Follows Playback".
It's real bug
